Andrew & Beverly Opyrchal
Andrew and Beverly Opyrchal of Shok Dance, have been focusing exclusively on West Coast Swing since 2008. They are recognized as top WCS professionals in Alberta and have achieved over 30 first-place across their divisions. They actively train with top coaches and compete on the WCS circuit, representing Calgary and Canada at international events.
Andrew began his dance journey at 13 years old in Winnipeg. Guilted into lessons at a Ballroom studio by his mother, it took only a single lesson and Andrew was instantly hooked! Months later, he was participating in his first competition, dancing pro-am Two-step. Andrew knew from a young age that he wanted to be a professional, and he’s been dancing ever since!
Beverly's dance journey began in 1995 with social dance classes at the University of Calgary Ballroom Dance Club. With her natural ability, Beverly advanced quickly and soon became a teaching assistant, performer with the New Country Dancers, and competed in American Rhythm dances.
Their amateur dance partnership began in 2000. They opened Shok Dance in 2006 and married in 2007.
Throughout their dance history, they have trained, performed, competed and won awards in a variety of styles - International Standard & Latin, American Smooth & Rhythm, Salsa, Country and WCS Swing.
Andrew & Beverly are the Directors of JT Swing Teams Calgary, coaching Junior Varisty and Varsity levels. They offer regularly scheduled WCS classes in Calgary where they encourage people of all ages and skill levels to move and experience the joy of dance!
